Warrington school joins Connection Classrooms scheme. Pupils at Winwick CE Primary School have a new friend for life after a student from Sierra Leone flew over to the UK to talk about life back at home.

Philip Samai, who attends Bread of Life Model Primary School in Waterloo, took a seven-hour flight from Sierra Leone to England along with his head teacher John Kamara.

Ian Price, head teacher at the Winwick primary school, told the Star: “We were delighted that Philip and John decided to come to visit our school.

“We wanted the children to learn about different cultures and appreciate what they have here and understand that not everyone has the same amount of material possessions that we do.”

Philip and Mr Kamara enjoyed experiencing a variety of different classes and took part in a music project.

The visit was organised by global education programme, Connecting Classrooms, which offers funding and resources for school partnerships in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and America.

Mr Price, who visited the school in Sierra Leone earlier in the year, said: “This is the first time we have been a part of Connecting Classrooms and we will definitely do it again.

“The children learnt so much from this experience and they have all gained a friend as well. They all loved spending time with Philip and were sad to see him go.”
